Audience analysis in the case of the Editing Room Escape

1.Why are you creating this story? Goals, rationale, purpose, premise? What do you want your audience to experience or understand?

I planned to create this story is because I always feel scared for the horror genre works. I wanted to challenge myself and try to get experience in handling this kind of genre digital work. What’s more, I think the escape game is a kind of classic game. The reality escape also become more and more popular in China or in the worldwide. However, a kind of  interactive narrative escape film is rare. So that I attempted to make an interactive narrative escape film for exploring. In addition, the editing room in building9 is a rare location for making this kind of film. I also want to make this film to remember my RMIT University life.

I wanted my audience to experience an adventure with tension and horror feeling. For the RMIT audience, I wanted they can have a sense of belonging.

2.What is your story? In what way will it be original, surprising, human, passionate, truthful or relevant to your audience?

My story is about how can my protagonist collecting clues and escaping away from a nightmare in the virtual editing room. The plot branch and different endings would be surprise my audience.

3.Where will you publish your story? What platform/s and hardware are suited to your audience? E-books, blogs, videos, photos, podcasts, tweets, status updates, apps, games, forums, websites?

Youtube – video / Instagram – photos (poster) / Chengguang Game Centra – RPG word game / …

4.Who is your audience? Who is your target viewer/user – i.e. the group you will target in promoting the work?

My audience would be the person who is interested in the escape theme or horror genre. My target viewer would be RMIT all the students and faculty, particularly media students and faculty.

5.When will you create the content and start to engage your audience? What is the production process and publishing schedule?

I planned to create the content this semester. For starting to engage my audience, I think it should be in the post production progress. The pre-production would be in this semester. Production, post production and publishing stages would be in next semester.

6.How will your audience participate in the narrative? Will they be able to contribute to the narrative, alter the narrative, respond to the narrative?

Because this is a role played narrative short film which means it provides multiple options for participators. Different options may bring them into different plot branch and may lead to quite different endings. This setting could be present a feature of conscious activity.  


Reflection-Sketch by Mark

From Mark’s sketch, “Movement and reflection”, I can see his reflected movement on his legs and feet. In this sketch, there is a slowly moving mobile camera lens and the noisy reality sounds, which make me feel stressful. I think Mark wanted to present a kind of emotion from this footage. I believe that the atmosphere in this sketch is not easeful. This footage is like a movie clip.
Even though the quality of the image is not perfect because of the limitation of the present phone camera, this digital work has expressed Mark’s thinking. Because of the portaflexibility of the phone camera, I believe more and more users will try to make their personalized digital works.



My mini-game does work.

I could not design it very well because of the limited time.

If I have enough time, I can put more clear and beautiful backgrounds and music. I also can develop the plot of this story, and make it become entire. Or, I will decide make another story which is more creative.

However, I think this mini-game like a small practice. I can present this one for public. To be honest, I used to make some reality mini-games for entertainment by this software. I am a gamer, I think this kind of game is easy to learn and easy to make but some others, like World of Warcraft, these kind of online games, are very complicated to make it.

This is a mini-game which made by myself.

I create a ‘decision tree’ which summarises the several branching plot in this game.

I legally download a game-making software from a Chinese game website, Chengguang Game Centre.

I just can post this game in this website, so if you want to play, just click this address, and wait loading and few advertising time.

At the first page, you can see 开始游戏, which means start, just click it, and next, all sentences are English, you will no any problem.

Search Engine Optimisation

I think the most effective method to achieve SEO principle is to create a special domain name. For example, I use WordPress, I should name my blog, so I decide use Cheng007 as my domain name. Actually, I prefer to choose Cheng but someone else has already use it. However, Cheng007 is also clear and easy be displayed in Google engine if we research it. I have do a exercise. When I input Cheng007 into Google engine, my blog address is on the top and some of my post also show in the first page. Therefore, give yourself a special blog name or domain name is very important because it means more people could receive some of your information and it can improve the hits on your website or blog as well.

David, Zoey and Cheng


  1. Content     I think our content is very good because it is useful for some Chinese who want to study go abroad, especially choosing come to Melbourne.
  2. Aesthetics     I think the aesthetic of our project is not well- designed enough because we did not share our suggestions in this respect. So that the appearance of our Prezi totally designed by David because we are concentrate on the video making. However, I think we did a good job because our program have heavy tasks. I also like David’s design because it is clear and simple. I think next time we can designed more beautiful as long as we have enough time.
  3. Technology     In this respect, I think Zoey and David are better than me. I think I just master basic skills on shooting or editing but I can feel they are advanced. I think there are two reasons. The first one is they are not freshmen, the second is they are hard working. I can feel both of them are serious person in their studying or working. In order to make a good digital story, sometimes I am afraid of doing some important work by myself because I think they can do better than me. So I have to admit that they did mostly tasks, which than me a lot.
  4. Processes     We make a clear time plan so that we do not have any problem on the process. We also use WhatsApp to keep contact in order to make sure we can keep going for our processing.
  5. Collaboration     I feel so happy I can collaborate with Zoey and David because of their warm-hearted, responsible and friendly. They have put energy into making our digital story and also teaching me some professional skills. Thanks a lot.





Peer feedback

A group made a video, which it the non-stop fiction story, the group member include Rick, Cindy and others. I like it very much because of the story creations and the whole style of the storyexplores, expecially the ending. However, this short vedio can be longer. The frame is brilliant but I think the shots could be more changed. I think if they can spend more time to make shots for this story, it will be wonderful.

‘Cooking for students or freshman’ is Shu’s group’s program. They use snapchat make videos and put some photos in Ins. They named it as Budgetmunchies. I like this grogram very much because I think I feel happy when I watching it. I think people will glad to watch it in their leisure time. I suggest that they can encourage the audiences share their cooking experience and post on Budgetmunchies.
